The Future Fund today announced the appointment of Ben Samild to the role of Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Strategy. The role was previously filled by Sue Brake until her appointment as Chief Investment Officer in December 2020.

Ben joined the Future Fund in 2013 and is currently the organisation’s Head of Alternatives with responsibility for the investment of over $30bn of capital across a range of hedge fund and other skill based absolute return strategies.

As Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Portfolio Strategy, Ben will lead work on portfolio construction and dynamic asset allocation, the integration of overall portfolio insights with sector specific opportunities and development of views on emerging markets.

Ben will report to Sue Brake, Chief Investment Officer, working alongside Wendy Norris as Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Private Markets, and David George, Deputy Chief Investment Officer, Public Markets. Ben will be a member of the organisation’s Investment Committee and its Senior Leadership Team.

Sue Brake said: “I am absolutely delighted that Ben has accepted this crucial role. He has detailed insights into our investment approach and a broad perspective on investing. In his new role he will add to our ability to navigate the increasingly complex investment environment and maximise the benefits of our total portfolio approach. It is a testament to the strength of the team that we can appoint an internal candidate to this role.

I would also like to thank Sam Killmier for having led the portfolio strategy function since the start of the year. Sam has done a tremendous job and will now return to the role of Director, Dynamic Asset Allocation.”

Ben Samild will take up his new role in the coming weeks. Consideration is currently being given to filling the Head of Alternatives role that Ben is vacating.
